I went through a bad experience with benzo withdrawal many years ago. I was taken off it too quickly (one-week taper!) I had horrible anxiety and it was difficult or nearly impossible for me to go into crowded public places for nearly a year afterwards.

I didn't realize at that time that my brain had to go through a healing process after stopping the drug.

I did eventually become able to handle going to the grocery store, a mall, and other crowded places with lots of lights and "stuff" without "freaking out".

I didn't have any support from my psychiatrist as far as trying to find a medication that would help me get through this time. I think doctors know lots more about how to help people with this process now.
