I was thinking this same thing. My T doesn't really have to write my name or anything as he has people who do scheduling and billing, so he doesn't visually see my full name in print regularly. It wouldn't surprise me particularly if he stumbled over my last name (he hasn't, but it wouldn't surprise me) since he generally only deals with me by first name. I don't know if he'd pass a spelling test on my last name; it isn't hard to spell, but it is an unusual spelling. People always think it is spelled differently (and always mispronounce it).


I grew up with a maiden name that is horrendous to spell and pronounce, so I think I'm just not very sensitive so such things. NO ONE got my name right growing up because it is such a booger (very rare German name with a million letters). I didn't take it personally then, and even though my married name is much simpler, it still is quirky enough that I'm used to people struggling with it. Just doesn't faze me.


Now, my T on several occasions over the year as called my by the wrong first name. It was always the same person -- both names start with the same letter, so it's just a slip. I've wondered if i remind him of that particular client somewhat though. Doesn't particularly bother me when it happens; just a brain fart.


Then there was the time my pdoc had the wrong file. Apparently he has another patient with almost the same last name (I suspect it is the more common spelling of my last name). That was a bigger issue as he was asking me about meds that I'd never taken. It didn't take long for him to realize they had put out the wrong file.
