Haven't crocheted in years but use to make cotton bath rugs by the dozens. Rugs were a hexagon shape and made from cotton rug yarn.

You could make a big or small as you wanted. Small ones would work well (I think they called them hot pads) under hot pots on the dining room table.

Great way to pass the time when you needed a little quiet time.
