I take the generic form of trileptal because I couldn't handle the side effects from Depakote. I lost about 30 lbs in 2 months prior to starting trileptal- I did gain weight but I think that was due to the rapid weight loss that I experienced beforehand. It doesn't control hypomania quite as well as Depakote but the side effects aren't as bad either.
