Well I'm partially to blame. Years ago when I actually had health insurance that would have covered psychiatric appointments and medications, I was going through a terrible paranoia episode and was too scared to keep going or take my medications. Well maybe not "blame" but it's fair to say it wasn't the professionals' faults, either. Then I lost my insurance and haven't been able to afford medication or psychiatry for a while. The only reason I can have it now is because I found an emergency state-level health insurance program for people who are X% below poverty line. So I had a chance to accept a diagnosis and start treatment years ago, but unfortunately was too wound up and paranoid. Definitely don't miss your chances to get help when you can. I could have been stable and with a proper paper trail by now.
