It bothers me because in the majority of cases when a child is having behavioral problems that are extremely self-destructive or aggressive, it's actually because they are being mistreated, neglected and/or flat out abused. Then they get 'helped' by being doped up on powerful drugs with potentially severe side effects and potential long-term health consequences. It's one of the biggest failures to children by society that I have ever seen in my life. It's one thing if Billy is obviously autistic and needs help feeling relaxed, or if Billy has blatant signs of attention deficit problems and needs a little help so he can thrive in school. But antipsychotics for a 10-year-old, usually just because they have self-destructive and/or aggression problems? Yeah no. They need therapy to rule out the possibility of abuse, because those are very common symptoms in children who are being abused. But of course abusive parents don't want to be busted by a therapist, so doping up the kids it is.
Thanks for this!
