I joined a new men's group, and we all talk about what's going on in our lives, and then the others in the group give us feedback, if they like. It's run fairly well, in that we first talk about whatever we like, without interruption. And the feedback doesn't start until later when we talk in a second round.

Anyway, I found myself growing defensive after I got some feedback, and I responded by saying something like "I know I'm not perfect... "

I always feel like I betray myself when I make comments like these. It is true that no one is perfect, but very few people start a conversation about anything by saying "I know I'm not perfect". I don't remember the last time I heard anyone say that about themselves. Most people, from what I can tell, assume that they are in the right, or at the very least that their perspective is worthy of respect.

Can anyone else relate?
