When it comes to this type of ocd what is the best way of challenging it head on?

A thought appears an obsessive one you're familiar with, you do your usual panicking and anxiety rises then you respond by doing your safety behaviours to null the thought/s and you're fine for a while but it comes back shortly after anyway and it's just an hourly fight.

So the problem is the safety behaviours you're doing but even if you decide to go against the safety behaviours how do you even know your not doing a secret safety behaviour your not even aware off? It doesn't help when your depressed and feel crap all the time because it's difficult to even tell if your feeling relief by facing your ocd fears and not reacting to them. When you're mood is constantly grey.

Anybody got any advice on this particular question, how to challenge and fight the thoughts the right way?

I bought brain lock about 3 or 4 years ago, is that book worth re reading and using that method solely to tackle pure o?
