I like tattoos. But I personally don't want one that "signifies" my struggles with mental health issues. That is how I feel about the semi colon tattoo for me personally. If I was really enamored with the tattoo, I'd have it placed somewhere that I could personally view it but wouldn't want it in a "publically" viewed place on my body. If I want to reflect on my mental health struggles, I don't want to share it with the general public. But that's my own personal view on the issue. I have no problem with someone else putting it in a more visible place or that someone might want to answer questions about it and what it means to them. I think it's an individual choice.
That said, I'd also like to add that I don't think that Growly's mentioning that it might be important to consider how one can be judged by getting the tattoo is unsupportive or judgmental. I do believe that many people with mental health issues struggle for acceptance and understanding in the employment arena, and I think it's a good thing to consider the impact of a tattoo that's significance/meaning has become common knowledge in the world. With social media, things that were once meaningful sometimes become distorted. I believe that she only suggested that one might consider how that tattoo would be judged; I didn't read her post as judging someone else's decision to get one. I really think that we ask for people's opinion on here and can expect people to often disagree or have a different view than are own. I don't think disagreeing is being unsupportive. Just my interpretation of things . . . and probably a few will disagree!

That's what makes a discussion so interesting!
