Also i have also found sites that claim to be possessed but they dont realize with DID its a cultural thing. maybe you can ask these people what their cultures are that use this term. I have done that and discovered most just use the term because they heard that the term is now used in the diagnostics but have not taken the time to read the rest of the diagnostics pages on DID to discover its a cultural thing, not everyone with DID will use the term possession to describe how they perceive their switching. most people with out a cultural background will describe the switching as I got triggered, felt numb, spacy, then lost track of time, or other commonly recognized wording.
I also want to tell you to be careful of what you find in various sites. just like in real life theres going to be those who like to trash talk/make believe/pretend/....I once found a site where people thought those with DID could not eat cheese, if you could eat cheese you were not DID. I have encountered people who tried to tell me they changed into a witch complete with a magic caldron and spells like harry potter...
theres even a mental disorder for this kind of thing called factitious disorders where people pretend to have problems that they dont really have.
my point is dont believe everything you find on the internet. it can lead you astray, confuse and in some cases lead ones brain to conjure up things that dont really happen with DID..there are lots out there that now use the description of possession but not so many that have the cultural background requirement of the diagnostics.
the best thing to do is go according to what your own treatment providers believe and treat you with.
a suggestion if you dont have the cultural background that the diagnostics require maybe you can find other words to describe what you are feeling so that your treatment providers dont just pass that symptom off as being another mental disorder.

Okay, thank you. Cheese? But I love cheese! How cheezy!
I do try to stick to the clinical studies with references, and others suffering.
