Could you maybe think about still using the scissors on something else as another form of therapy. Cutting out shapes or pictures from a book can be oddly satisfying.

Good idea! For me the 're-doing' my hair feels like I'm doing something creative...which is a way I cope with stress. Good idea to do something
else creative, rather than chop at the hair.
