There are plenty of different definitions of addiction out there so it would largely depend on the definition you are using... Either way... Does it matter how you define it? If you decide it is messing you up (for whatever reason) then look at how to change it... if not?

Just because something is an addiction doesn't mean we have to give it up. And just because something isn't an addiction, doesn't mean we don't have to give it up...

I am addicted to heroin, alcohol, cigarettes and coffee (perhaps also the internet). Right now I am only giving up the first two. I am not addicted to family but I do need to give them up..

Most researchers no longer define physical dependency as addiction, also, so it is possible to go through some physical withdrawal from something without being addicted to it (according to latest addiction theory).
