Hi, quietguy. I think you need to take up some hobbies and then find others who share the same interests. I am very glad to hear that you are a good student - keep it up and it will pay off in the long run.
As for the new high school, it does not sound like a good fit for you. Are there other schools you could attend? I take it that you have a presentable appearance and haircut as well as good hygiene. It's important to learn to smile and to make eye contact when talking with people. Ask them about themselves - people love to talk about themselves. It will also take some of the focus off of you and your insecurities. Consider getting a part-time job. The extra spending money will help socially, you can invest in your new hobby (or existing ones) and use the funds for a nice haircut or sneakers. Jobs are also a good way of meeting people; co-workers often make excellent friends.
Is there a school counselor you could talk to? Take advantage of their availability while you can. You never know what you might learn from them.
