Unless someone has ever felt truly alone it is impossible for them to sympathize. I have been there and I understand exactly what you are saying. Even if I found someone to talk to for awhile the feeling of lonesomeness returned as soon as we parted company.
If it it happens now and my wife is asleep all I can do is leave the TV on quietly and lay down on the couch. The couch is perfect because of the close contact with my body (not as open as a bed). I pull my one thin blanket up close to my chin and force myself to think about my favorite thoughts, like the universe and it's endless wonders. If everything is just right I will fall asleep for an hour and when I awake I don't feel quite so alone anymore.
When this does not work I spend hours through the night on PC and other forum sites just to keep my mind busy.
I know exactly how you feel and wish I had more to offer you.
Please try to rest well.
