The weight gain is very problematic. That is why I only took a few different anti-psychotics for a few weeks during mania and then stopped. I flat out told my psychiatrist that I would not take them if they caused bad side effects like diabetes or metabolic syndrome. I don't care if that makes me vain or not. Luckily I stabilized.
