just a thought about a situation that happened with me...one time i read about what other countries call poly fragmented alters (alters of alters of alters.....) my thoughts naturally jumped to the conclusion that because I had so many alters and sometimes more than one was showing itself at the same same time that must mean the two came from one another. boy was I wrong. when my therapist and I were mapping my internal system it soon became obvious those I had assumed from alters from alters was not. they just happened to share the same connections ie job, purpose, reason for being created, triggers....so of course they would present their selves close to or with each other when one or the other was in control. those alters of mine that were alters of alters were like ....well imagine a generation of families...you have the grandparents then you have the next generation down the parents then the next generation down the parents kids then their children then their childrens children.... the alter that came from another alter was like that sort of like they had still had their own way of being their ownjobs, purposes, reasons for being and rarely were they presenting when their counter part was in control...

let me show you what I mean...

for naming purposes Ill call the first alter rainy here Rainy was in control and something triggered rainy. Rainy dissociated and another alter was created to handle what rainy could not. because Rainy could not handle that trigger there was no awareness or connection shared by Rainy and the one created from her. just like there was no connection to me and rainy. Rainy was in control only when I dissociated and the alter from rainy was in control only when Rainy dissociated. it was like peeling an onion trying to map the alters because you never knew which alter came from whom, each alter had their own layers of jobs, purposes, reasons for being. with that thin onion skin called dissociation separating each other that came from each other. those that did present their self together turned out to just share their jobs, purposes, reasons for being created, triggers...

example Rainy and another sad alter were together or showed their self together /close tot he surface at the same time because their common job, purpose, reason for being created, triggers was sadness, needing to cry, suicidal feelings....

my point be careful assuming just because an article says this is what happens, that thats how it happens, and dont just jump to conclusions that alters together means they came from one another. if like me you may end up being very shocked and amazed at the same time to discover the two actually may not be one from another but rather just sharing their job, purpose, reason for being, triggers and such.
