Keep in mind you have most likely had Bipolar looooong before you were diagnosed, So in reality you have been managing somehow.
Being manic can certainly cause some behaviors outside your normal ones.
If I am in a irritable state of mind due to my bipolar shifting , yes I am edgy and get madder than I might if I was chill and baseline. but most everyone on the planet is going to react more strongly if they are tired of stressed, so its not all "Bipolar"
Some medications can snow you under or flatten you so much that you do not want to engage in activities you normally love and enjoy. But there are all kinds of medications that can be tried and lots of fine tuning.. I have yet to ever see a person start meds and it be the perfect one, My Pdoc said he never has run across someone that hit the jack pot right away.
Managing Bipolar isn't just about take medication XYZ.. Bipolar needs to be attacked from all sides to find balance and your baseline. Meditation, Mindfulness, Healthy diet and exercise, Coping skills , healthy sleep hygiene, breathing exercises, learning your triggers .. the list goes on and on.
