You won't lose your talent if you start medication. But that's something I worry about too--like suddenly I won't be able to write anymore, because of an AP. If you don't take an AP you really don't need to worry. I wrote two novels and a lot of short stories when I was just on lamictal.
As for your other questions, I think those are things anyone could have/develop, bipolar or not.
