You're right, bonding with one's mother is very important. I have to admit, though, that it was not my mother's fault. It was my fault. I chose not to bond; I didn't want to. My mother was so concerned about my aloofness that she sent me to a child psychologist when I was in first grade. She went too, because she thought she was doing something wrong. So I think I failed to bond because I had the makings of a schizoid even at that early age.
I'm glad school was a safe haven for you. A lot of time is spent there, so it's good that you could find some refuge there.
