Well I don't try to get rid of anything but I have had success shifting my attention to other areas like breathing and counting. Breathe naturally, when you are ready, silently count 1 on the inhale, 2 on the exhale, 3 on the inhale, continuing up to 10. Then begin at 1 again. It is not possible to focus on breath and counting and still worry about things fully.
