I quite like tech, and it does not have to be the type we are used to and take for granted.
That said, I do not care for operating systems that do everything behind your back. I have an old iPhone (a handmedown, would never buy one) and while it has some nifty stuff, it does things without any OK from me. I mean, some apps you can upgrade when you want, some will call home at any moment and you have zero control over it.
That is how people want it to be. They want others to control them so they will not have to think. For me that is not good progress.
As for a computer I use whatever crap people give me when they upgrade. Since most what I do does not take a large amount of resources I'm pretty much fine with everything.
I do not use Facebook or anything like that. I do not volunteer information about me like that. If someone wants to stalk me (person or country) they will have to work a little harder than that.
I know I'm piggybacking on other people's overconsumption of electronics, but still I cannot understand the fascination people have with modern TV's, modern computers, the latest iPhone etc. Especially when it is built to break.
