The nice thing about therapy is there is no risk involved. You can just try it and see if it works for you. Quite a lot of people get a benefit from it.
Mistrust and viewing life as hostile is one of those self-reinforcing things. If you don't trust people, they *will* be hostile towards you, proving that you were right not to trust them. Life is both hostile and welcoming towards you at the same time. When you're depressed it's easy to only see the hostile part.
