I was in a similar position. I had to go impatient right at the start of a new job. I was in the hospital for 10 days, and then a month later another week. I told my work I was hospitalized for medical reasons and got a note that didn't say anything about bipolar. They let me keep my job and were very understanding (probably because they thought it was a physical ailment). I did wind up quitting the full time job because I went through a bad depression afterward, and said that it was because of the illness. They allowed me to come back part time (which was perfect and I highly recommend) and I'm still working there today.
