Treating the symptoms is really what treatment for a mental or a physical illness is all about. " Bipolar" is really a label... it's needed for filing insurance claims and dropping people into a group that has some common difficulties( symptoms) ..
Many people want a diagnosis so they can formulate a game plan, many people just want to deal with the problems that a diagnosis is causing. 6 pf this half dozen of the other kinda deal.
As for your employment, I don't know what the regulations are in your country. Here in the USA the vast majority of jobs there are no background checks . That said , anyone in employment that require clearance such as military or secret service ect.... yes they do extensive back ground and health exams and testing in required. So it will depend on your countries laws /regulations and particular jobs.
I guess you have to decide if having the label is going to be helpful or harmful for you.
