My daughter was diagnosed in 1st grade with ADHD. It was a battle to get her father to see this. We have a good pediatrician who helped him realize what she has & that he had it (hereditary for her). In the past few years during 6th & 7th grade she has made many issues of having to take her meds (she is on Adderall XR & is a HIGH metablolizer). Basically she doesn't want to take them. There is a night and day difference when she takes them. One of the biggest problems we have is her metabolism- it is very high like her fathers so she has to take her XR (and generic when she was on them) meds 2 times a day. Righ now she is taking the max dose of Adderall XR-60 mg a day. Here is the thing: around April I started noticing that even when she took it correctly (she dumped the pill out at lunch in the nurses office when the nurse was distracted) the medicine didn't seem to have the affect it used to. After a certain time, has anyone had an issue where the meds don't seem to work? We tried her on Concerta about 4 years back and we had an angry child on our hands. I know formulation makes a big difference in the meds and how people react to the meds. She is now preparing for the 8th grade and is defiant in doing things, will not continue and finish what she starts or commits to, refuses to cooperate in the house and everything has to be ME/My way or else she changes the situation to where it is her way. Granted I know some of this is teenage / child issues but I will be darned if I can't find that Parent's Guide to Raising Children and What to Expect that was never written for people having children that all parents would love to have had when they had kids. We get drivers ed, but not parents ed info. She is seeing a therapist and playing the game of who can outlast who in not speaking to the therapist. She hasn't hit that stage of 'becoming a woman' where most of her friends have and in this past month just reached 90 lbs. Can anyone relate or help?
