Hello everyone
I think I may have some tangible information for some of you. I have never experienced anything like what people have described up until recently (late 20s). However ever since childhood, I was able to self-induce a state of depersonalization by looking at my hands. Those were frightening experiences but rarely lasted more than a minute and I was able to snap out of it everytime except for one time. Anyhow, I recently experimented with ketamine (please for the love of god do not try this stuff) and I was put into an irreversible state of depersonalization. However as the effects were wearing off, I started to experience the sensation of everything appearing to speed up (like when you are viewing a super high framerate video at 120fps) as people are describing there. I did not feel anxious at all at that point. When I tried watching TV, it almost felt like you can see the screen flickering.
In any case, I think some people are correct in associating this with a possible subset of symptoms associated with depersonalization. It's also is very likely related to NMDA receptor antagonism. Finally my theory is that our brain filters and smooths neuronal input (vision, sound, touch) normally, but for some reason when this process is disrupted, we start to observe the "raw" data that is being projected to the consciousness which may account for these experiences.
