What I want to know is, do you have any plans for the rest of your life? You know what you like to do now, but what would you like to be doing five or ten years down the road? What would you like to accomplish with your life? Your goals, and your life, should be yours. Your parents and others should help you as guides, and not make your choices for you. It isn't selfish to be yourself and have your own style, interests, choose your friends, etc. Just make sure that what you are doing now is compatible with your hopes for the rest of your life. Your mother probably cares about you and wants what she thinks is best for you. Mothers can also be pushy and try to live through their children and try to turn their children into what they wanted to be themselves. There is no way for me to know what is the case for you. Maybe some of both. My advice is to be yourself, but remember to plan for the future, and look for what may be helpful in your mother's advice too. How does that sound?
