Sounds like you were powerless in the situation?

Do you think tho, that for him knowing that you understood his position must have made a lot of difference to him? Were you able to speak to him about it?
I know you would have liked to have done more.
If I were in his position, I think I would have been deeply helped by having a daughter who cared and could see what was happening as you did.
