I love to read a post that lets me recommend Jerrold Mundis's books. He is a no-nonsense guy. He founded the 12-step group Debtors Anonymous. He writes about having a healthy relationship with money in general, though, not just about debt and compulsive spending. By nature, I tend towards the overspending end of the spectrum. When I starting reading Jerrold Mundis, I was surprised to learn that not spending
enough money is also considered unhealthy.
He has some very good things to say about not sabotaging your life and happiness in order to pay back debt faster.
The first book I've recommended has great tips for how to make a spending plan (budget).
How to Get Out of Debt, Stay Out of Debt, and Live Prosperously: Based on the Proven Principles and Techniques of Debtors Anonymous by Jerrold Mundis
Earn What You Deserve: How To Stop Underearning and Start Thriving by Jerrold Mundis
If you don't want to buy them and can't find them at a library, you can always go to a bookstore and look at them.
