My mum's dog is sick. They took him to the emergency vet at the PDSA last night (it's a bank holiday weekend here). The vet said he probably has an infection and gave us antibiotics, as she said she didn't know what the lesions on his skin were, but I'm pretty sure they're hemangiomas (benign blood vessel tumours) from when I studied medicine. They look just like they do in humans, and would explain why he keeps bleeding (i.e. a normal cut would've healed ages ago). Dogs can get those too.

I think they need a second opinion at my vets, but they don't have dog insurance and it would be expensive to have the blood tests, skin biopsy and x-ray (he has a swelling on his shoulder and has been limping for 3 weeks) that I think he needs.

I hope it's not hemangiomas. Though they're benign, they can also occur internally and surgeries are expensive. Plus they can cause anaemia and clotting problems, which is why I think he needs blood tests because of the amount he's bled over the last few weeks. And there is the (small) potential that they could become malignant.

I'm obviously not a vet, so I hope that I'm wrong because we'd, my mum especially, would be devastated if anything happened to him. He's only 6yo!

I'm trying to stay positive.
