If you can't get the light bulbs you need is there a way to filter the stronger light out? I don't know if placing a thin piece of material around your lamps is safe, but maybe like Chinese lanterns in place of traditional shades could block out the worst of the light and give you a softer light. I hate bright lights too. I found some regular light bulbs at a local dollar store, so I guess I lucked out. Also, you can check online if you don't mind paying for shipping and then waiting for them to arrive. There's even this website that sells vintage Edison style 60-watt reproduction light bulbs. (Yay, for steampunk buddies!)
