for some people yes and for others no, only your own treatment providers can say whether this is normal for you.

what I can say is that pain was never one of my triggers for causing me to dissociate. it is part of my having MS (multiple Sclerosis a medical not mental problem)

a tip with DID type dissociating the triggers are usually associated with an alters job, purpose reason for being...

example I would dissociate (feel numb, spaced out switch into an alter) when I was depressed. the resulting alter that took over was the one that handled sadness, depression needing to cry.

but in general a person dissociative disorders or not, can have any number of triggers including pain, anxiety and other emotions that cause them to feel numb, spaced out, foggy minded. I know someone with cancer that is the way that you posted, I know someone with depression that has gone through this same thing.

my point sure it can happen but only your treatment providers can say whether this happening to you is your DID or another mental or physical health problem or completely normal.

my suggestion if this continues to bother you contact your or a treatment provider. they can have you evaluated for all the mental and physical and normal problems that can cause this kind of thing. then tell you where its coming from and what to do about it.
