I volunteer on a suicide hotline, and I can absolutely assure you that calling them once a month is not too much. We have callers that call daily. The only difference is, with the people who call super often is we try to keep the calls shorter, to around 20 minutes, while with new or less frequent callers we'll typically talk 45 min or longer is the suicide risk is really high.
Bottom line, we'd rather have people call us than not.
