Now I am waiting for final interview news and things at work seem more and more false.

I live in a very small town... so word that I am looking for a new job has leaked out, inevitably. I don't think my boss, who is brand new, has a clue, but our Board of Directors MUST KNOW that I'm so out of here.

I might get both (or none) of these job offers, but if I don't, I'm going to give my notice. The truth is, the only reason that I am still here is because I'm a serious candidate for other jobs, and I don't want to quit while the whole interview finalizing process/reference checking is in process. I think it would make me look like a flake.

But the pressure of the fake factor ....is more than I can bear.

Your comments were helpful to me. You're right that if the shoe was on the other foot, my employer wouldn't think twice about unloading me. There is little loyalty on their side.

I just feel so inauthentic! I feel like my intentions are VISIBLE AND OBVIOUS.

The bottom line, though, is there is no law against looking for another job.
