A Degu is what was once called "The Poor Man's Chinchilla....... they are cousins to the Chinchilla, with an unofficial rat look to them with their fur like coat and long tail.

They are mammals.... they give birth to live little Degu's.

And - they come from Chile.... they were brought over to America by the medical field to study the effects of Diabetes, for Degu's cannot process sugar (no fruit for them) and prone to being Diabetic.
