Depakote did it to me, too.. hair has never been the same since. Falls out like crazy. I wish I had known that it was a possible side effect, because I really liked my hair the way it was, long and healthy; no more. I've seen 3 dermatologists about it and tried umpteen topical solutions but so far haven't found anything to work for me. My current neurologist (I get severe migraines) told me he never recommends it to women as a first line option because he's never known one to be okay with the frequent hair loss. If only I had met him sooner.
Bloodwork would definitely be a good idea; I've also read that iron deficiency can be a factor in rapid hair loss, but you don't want to guess about that as ending up with too much iron in your diet would not be good.
