Think that is a good question.....is it something that can wait.....if it has been going on this long......whats a few more weeks so you can relax before starting that huge of project.

I know about the house thing.....that is exactly what I am doing right now here in Kentucky & it is a huge....huge....huge job. I think rest & relaxation is a good thing & while you are relaxing, you can do a little thinking about what your plans need to be without stressing over them.

Sometimes I need to do the design....(thinking about it) for awhile....then when I tackle the job, it seems to come together much better.

I have found out that even this house that is only 15 years old, is like a can of worms. I strip off the wall paper & find they didn't prep the walls before that & I pull off the drywall.....whole room had to be drywalled (mudded) before it could even be painted.

Pulled up the carpet for it to be replaced.....found water damage on the plywood flooring.....had to be fixed before the carpet could be layed.

When the carpenter came in to help out with the painting (our crunch to get it done a bit quicker, he noticed the ceiling in the bonus room had cracks...looking farther, noticed that the whole ceiling was sagging about 3 inches.....had to put a 4x4 support in to push it back up (I had them put in a nice 4x4 spindle, so it looks beautiful....not just functional.

When they pulled off the interior doors to the dining room (I am putting in natural wood doors throughout the house), they found that the doorways weren't designed for doors & they would have looked pieced in the natural wood.....so I had them make the doorways into arches.

When we were painting, I wanted to put some fresh black paint on the fireplace insert.....found out it wasn't connected to the chimney.....decided not to spend the $$$$$$$ to have it connected (it was a huge amount) so I had them pull it out.....found out the damper had been taken out & needed it all fixed so I could restore it back to a real fireplace.....then there wasn't a cap/spark arrester on the top, so had to have that added too.

Oh yes, the leak in the front room....wasn't from the flashing on the porch roof....it was leaking through the rotten wood on the upstairs windows......I knew the windows needed to be replaced, but I have to have all the frames & possibly rotten wood in the walls taken out & the windows put in & built back up to seal back to the brick house.

And of course, the Air conditioner went out.....had to find a good company quick....they suggested it might just be a dirty filted that caused it to freeze up.....not so lucky.....it was filthy from all the sanding for the painting that is being done, but the motor went out. We couldn't work around the house without the a/c, so had to get it fixed quick.....no time for delays.

I am acting as my own contractor for the house & my barn area in a new area where I don't know anyone.......I am finding the best people to do the job (if you have read my "attitude" post you will see how it is easier here). I have talked to many people & have found a great team to come together & do it all.....even areas of putting a farm together that I never knew anything about like bushhogging & bull dozing.....& barn building.

I know what a huge overwhelming job it is.....but really after a wonderful relaxing trip.....enjoy, sit back, relax, & know that you can come back & then pull it all together much better with a relaxed mind than a stressed one. Besides, if it were me, if I didn't take the trip, I would be thinking about the trip that I was missing on top of the problems I was having with the house....& that makes the task even harder.

It will all work out,
Debbie
