People who have Aspergers can still care about other people and what happens in the world. They are not immune to love. However, as you mentioned, they have a difficult time understanding things from another person's perspective.
Anyway, I'm sure you will find out more answers when they do more testing. I had actually thought I had Aspergers, since I was told as s child that I didn't have ADHD. I did well in school and am female. They didn't know back then that it manifested can differently in females. The only part part of Aspergers that I couldn't relate to, was the fact that I have strong sense of empathy. After bringing it up to a Dr, I was subsequently diagnosed with ADHD.
I wish you luck. I know it's frustrating.
Btw, I also suffer from GAD and panic disorder.
