Bipolar 2 has a lot of the symptoms you seemed to describe and that's where not having to ever had full-blown mania can come into play. However, being diagnosed after one session where the doc (IMO) , from what you described in the OP, was angry when said diagnosis was made, is not reliable nor professional....again, his is just IMO. The doc, it sounds like, was not maintaining objectivity. I strongly agree that you may need to get a second opinion. It's important because if you're bipolar, they have to be careful to not put you on a med that can induce mania. Also, just because you've never been manic doesn't mean you never will be nor does it mean you don't get hypomanic.

I also agree with wiretwister in that I'd want to look at WHY you went to the hospital, as that helps paint the whole picture. Also, the diagnosis is mainly important to docs, as that's what determines if insurance will pay for your treatment, what they will & won't pay for,etc. & what meds you are prescribed. For your self-care, I agree that what matters is you learning how to get/stay well.
