This is something I also struggle with, but for a different reason - I am not happy with my weight, and how I look in clothing because of it. Since our clothes are usually the first thing the rest of the world sees about us, it is frustrating when you don't look like you feel. Hugs.

I work for a clothing retailer, and we have some customers who's kids have autism and have sensory issues with certain fabrics. So I'll tell you what I tell them: Find out which fabrics work and which don't. Maybe you thrive in 100% Cotton, but anything with spandex makes you feel uncomfortable. Maybe you love Cotton/Polyester blends, or maybe blended fabrics are a no-go. Whatever your preferences, figure out what works and what doesn't. Once you know that, then you can shop around for new items. Most retailers will list the fabric makeup right on the product description page (if shopping online) or you can just look at the tag inside the garment.

I hope this helps! As far as worrying about what your family/friends will think, maybe this is something you need to ease into slowly. Just get a few new items at a time, not a total wardrobe overhaul in one day. (It's too expensive, at least for me, to just replace all my clothes at once anyway.) Eventually, as you add new items, get rid of or donate ones that you no longer like or wear very often. After some time, you'll have built a wardrobe you feel good in.
thanks, you are right, i should buy clothes that are comfortable and pay attention to what fabric it is made of... maybe if i focus on that, I will be able to feel more comfortable in the clothes i wear..
i also have the same issue with being overweight and having problems with how the clothes looks on me.. i may like how the clothes look but how they fit looks weird on me... i really wish i can get in better shape... but it's been hard because of depression making me unmotivated to workout...
