I began Prozac when it first came out and considered it a miracle drug for my depression. It didn't totally stop the depression but at least I could actually start applying psychotherapy. Down through the years there have been periods when I would switch between it and Zoloft. It seems for me after quite a few years one or the other stops working and I have to switch. However I have always been on some type of antipsychotic also until a couple of years ago.
About 8 months after I was taken off geodon I went manic and was immediately taken off the prozac, the doctors blaming the Prozac. About 5 days after that I landed in the hospital.
After many med combinations I am now on paxil as nothing but ssris will lessen my depression. Now I am back on the antipsychotic again too. This time trialling seroquel.
My sister tried Zoloft and she was one of those people who go intensely suicidal with it. Which is surprising because usually close relatives can take the same meds to help with their illness but that doesn't seem to be the case between us.
So, to end this you won't know until you try how you will be affected by taking prozac.
