My father, who is certainly an undiagnosed Bipolar 1, definitely engaged in this activity. Luckily never to the point of substantially damaging his and my mother's long term finances. At the age of 77 it seems like those days have stopped, which is very good.
I am diagnosed bipolar 2, and have been prone to spend at times, but not to the same degree. Thankfully I'm a bit cheap...I'm a CPA and that is about the only "accountant" thing about me. Really my spending is a bit controlled by a lot of anxiety, which has grown alot through the years. I do all kinds of planning when it comes to spending. Without my wife though, it would probably be a bit more uncontrolled.
