On the way back from a professional conference in Virginia, where I stayed in a no-frills dorm room for a whole week, I decided to treat myself to a whole day in Savannah, after finding a good deal on expedia. I'm not sure why my EX always insisted on saving money by staying at motels out by the interstate, as we could occasionally afford a little treat. Being able to step outside one's door and be in the historic district makes such a difference, especially since we are older folks. Once we were stuck out in the burbs, driving into town never seemed really practical, so there we were.
Here's the good part: I started the day with an historic tour of the city, then a nice lunch, an art museum, a riverboat tour where there was really a gritty, insider's view of how the port operates because the captain was a blue-collar guy who had actually worked a lot of the longshore jobs.
Dinner was reasonably good, and the day isn't over yet. I noticed a church is having a half-hour candlelight performance of Gregorian chant, so I plan to cap the day with that. And then back to the room for my favorite reality show, Ice Truckers. Can't remember the last time I had a day so filled with nice things.
