Previously I have sold all my possessions and gone backpacking around the world. I came back to nothing. No job, no house, no car...but the experience was worth it.

I have a bit over 600 CD's, around 500 vinyl albums, but not much virtual music. Luckily almost all my vinyl was second hand and pretty inexpensive for the most part. The hunt is always the best part.

Also I gathered it over a pretty wide span of time.
The equipment though is where my spending really hits. I bought a pair of Marin Logan speakers and a very nice Cambridge Audio integrated amp at the same time....I couldn't really afford either and already had very nice equipment.
The only positive when it comes to my spending is that it's usually on hard durable assets that I can sell after the fact.
My biggest one was buying a very nice BMW 330i. I at least eventually got rid of it for what owed, so not too much harm.
