I have a big increase in anxiety on the weekends when I am alone for long stretches. What has helped me is having a list of things to do and getting out of the house once or twice during each day. For example, one day last week I went out to get coffee, came home and watched tv, ran an errand and then came home to do some work, then went to the gym and came home to surf the net. It broke up the day so dark thoughts couldn't take too much hold.
People can be overwhelming, but often animal shelters and revues are looking for people to socialize animals and spend some quiet time with them.
