I really don't get the insurance companies. Is it really cheaper for them to pay a pdoc and prescription costs for meds than to pay for a therapist?

My therapist charges $125/session. Let's say I see him twice a month. That's $250.

I don't see a pdoc, but my counselor once recommended I should and told me that the fee would be about $250 per visit. Let's say I see the pdoc once a month for meds. That's $250 plus the cost of the meds. That comes out to more than the cost of twice a month therapy. Plus, meds often seem to be never-ending, just helping with symptoms, not curing the problem, so this could last forever.

I don't get how it saves the insurance company money to pay for the pdoc plus meds rather than therapy twice a month.

BTW, my insurance pays nada-zilch-zero for my therapist. I hate insurance.
