I am also stressed, on a daily basis, at my job. I have had to marshal resources in my personal life, clean up my diet, pay special attention to my sleep patterns, reach out to friends, see a therapist, and learn techniques for self-calming.

None of this was needed just two years ago in this same job. The whole configuration of this organization has changed around me. I'm a very left-leaning person who NEVER injects my politics into my work, but I am managed by right-wing EXTREMISTS. I don't mind people of any political stripe as long as they treat people fairly. But our Board of Directors are ideologues who use name-calling, power plays and secrets to abuse those who don't agree with them.

I no longer feel safe.

But the benefits of the changes I've made (see above) have been enormous. Going on "auto pilot" in a safe environment where I was valued and appreciated was the Beginner's Class. Now I am in the Advanced Class. I've learned how to be diplomatic and centered in the midst of poisonous chaos.

Each day, I read the words of the Dalai Lama: "Do not Allow the Behavior of Others to Destroy your Inner Peace."

It's that simple. But it sure aint easy.
