Unwanted, intrusive thoughts are the hallmark of OCD. Especially when you mention the steps you feel the need to take (the compulsion) to rid yourself of the icky feeling, it sounds a lot like OCD. You know it's irrational but you can't shake the feeling that you *have* to do XYZ. I totally understand.
I don't want to scare you but as someone who has suffered from severe OCD, I advise you to be aware of your behavior and talk to a professional when you get the chance. OCD is completely treatable with cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), specifically exposure therapy. The longer you wait though, the more consuming the irrational thoughts will become, slowly spreading into other fears and behaviors to combat the discomfort of the feelings. Your bio says that you have already been diagnosed with anxiety, and OCD is an anxiety disorder. I assume you have a doc and/or a therapist who is managing your treatment? I would bring this up to him/her the next time you see them.

I am going to because I told my pdoc that I probably do have OCD. I filled out one of those questionairre things she gave me to figure out how bad it is. It's mainly been the fear of contamination now, since I don't remember the last time this happened, but I use to do this a lot and I thought if I told someone, I would be deemed "crazy".
