I doubt that I'm a good one to comment on the subject of laziness versus avolition, having not experienced the latter. I think it's always going to be hard to decipher between the two because they are so subjective to the person. Personally, I'm lazy. That's like a personality trait that I have to overcome. Certainly avolition as a side effect of psychosis or medication will take a person's normal desire, motivation and fire and throw ice on it. I think the important thing is that folks do what they are able to do. Everyone has a different threshold and ability to cope with what they've been given biologically. So it's important to give encouragement to try to overcome obstacles to motivation, but at the same time give room if they aren't overcome so easily. <backs away slowly>
