It happens to everybody; every memory has a lifecycle, and the accuracy diminishes over time. That's part of why they try to get crime investigations going in the first 48 hours -- when eyewitness accounts are most reliable.

Plus when we were kids there was so much less to remember.. just a few years of life really. Now the database is overloaded, and can barely find a nook or cranny in which to store new stuff.

These days I consider my mind more of a well-intentioned interpreter than a credible witness.
